Designated Scholarship Programs are Chinese Government Scholarship programs set up in accordance with cooperation agreements between China and international organizations and institutions. The definition comes from section I(III) of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship, published by the China Scholarship Council (Campus China). See also Scholarships on this site.

Definition

Section I of the guide lists four scholarship categories: (I) Bilateral Program, (II) University Program, (III) Designated Scholarship Programs and (IV) Student Exchange Program.

What the official text says

Section I(III) states that these programs "are set up in accordance with cooperation agreements between China and international organizations and institutions."

Under the same section, "an applicant shall file an application with the international organizations and institutions concerned."

Section I(III) carries a table of the programs. The table gives, for each program, the target group, the supporting categories and the application receiving agency.
