Scholarship stipend: the monthly living allowance of the Chinese Government Scholarship

In the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship, "Stipend" is item 3 of the scholarship coverage list in section III. The guide sets a fixed monthly amount for each study category. Definition

Stipend is item 3 of the coverage list in section III, "Scholarship Coverage". The other three items are tuition fees, a free university dormitory or accommodation subsidy, and comprehensive medical insurance.

What the official text says

Section II, "Supporting Categories, Duration, Institutions, and Majors", gives the duration line. It states that the Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. It states that the language courses last one year, and that the duration of the scholarship for major study conforms to that as required.

Section III, item 3, sets the monthly stipend by category:

Category (as printed) Monthly stipend
Undergraduates CNY 2,500 per month
Master's students/general scholars CNY 3,000 per month
Doctoral students/senior scholars CNY 3,500 per month

Section III, item 4, sets the two comprehensive medical insurance figures:

  • CNY 800 per person per year.
  • CNY 400 per person, for programs lasting less than six months.
