Definition
CHSI is maintained by CSSD. The About CSSD page says CSSD was formerly known as the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC), was founded in 1991, and is an authoritative institution directly under the Ministry of Education. The same page lists its primary business as higher education enrollment, student record and qualification management, and graduates' employment.
The CHSI home page describes CSSD as "the MOE-authorized qualification verification institution in China". The home page lists three services: Online Authentication, Online Verification Report and Verification Report.
What the official text says
The English service pages describe the three services as follows.
| Service | What the page says it covers |
|---|---|
| Online Authentication | Authenticates a student record or qualification from the diploma and ID information provided, on a web page or through a web service. Forms: Personal Review (access to one's own qualification or student record, at no cost); Individual Verification (by name and diploma number); Member Verification (for registered members); Web Service (a qualification verification interface). |
| Online Verification Report | A report on student records, qualification certificates and admission information, based on online verification, for use in employment, overseas study, further studies, promotion, professional titles evaluation and credit assessment. The default valid period is one year, which can be extended. Versions: print, PDF and email. Available in English. The page states that the barcode can be pasted into resumes. |
| Verification Report | Chinese and English versions for higher education qualification certificates, student records, academic transcripts, high school qualifications, Gaokao scores and Huikao results. Certificates awarded at any time can be verified, including certificates from before 1991 that may not be in the database. The report contains anti-counterfeiting features. |
The Verification Report page prints this line before its list of documents: "Please make sure you review the documents below before starting your application." The page lists seven notices by title:

- "CSSD is the only MOE-designated qualification verification institution (Jiaoxue [2007] No.5)."
