The "About the centre" page lists seven service areas. Items 2 and 5 are reproduced here as the page states them, in this site's translation:
- Provides services for study abroad, including visas and air tickets for government-sponsored students, and pre-departure training for students going abroad.
- Carries out certification of academic qualifications and degrees awarded abroad, in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and by Chinese-foreign cooperative education programmes, and provides related policy consultation.
- Provides services for the return of overseas students, builds the return service system, supports the placement of returnees and the recruitment of overseas talent by employers, and provides services for returnee innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Carries out international cooperation in study abroad and related fields, promotes educational exchange and student mobility, and provides services for domestic institutions that bring in high-quality overseas resources and train international talent.
- Provides services for international students coming to China and for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan studying in the mainland, including consultation on school choice and employment information, and organises alumni events for students who have studied in China.
- Provides archive management services for overseas students.
- Builds and promotes a digital study service platform, and uses the big-data resource platform for students studying abroad and in China to provide scientific management and services.
The page lists fifteen internal departments. Two of them are the certification departments for qualifications and degrees obtained overseas:
